Unhappy Help... where has my internal memory gone?

Please Login to Remove!

I just picked up the Bold on Saturday. This is my first Blackberry and smartphone.

I use a macbook as my computer and am currently without a windows machine.

This afternoon I uploaded 15 songs and 1 video file that was 140(ish) megs.

I uploaded these files using Mass Media just to test how the media sounded and looked on the Blackberry 9000. I deleted these files through Mass Media as well using the "move to trash" function.

I went to upload actual files I wanted on the system this evening and before I uploaded anything I realized I only had 367 MB available! I bought the device without a microsd card to start because the bold claims to come with 1gig ... however I can't seem to find the remaining space (600 MB)... what gives??

Can anyone help me or explain why I only have 367 MBs available?? I just downloaded PocketMac, but it's no help either.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

As far as your files, consider using Wma files if that is not what occurred. Avi files take up much more space. As far as the 1 Gig debate, bear in mind that the device processes take up some of that space. This includes the operatinh system etc.

Thanks for the reply akosnitzky, I appreciate the tip for the WMA files, although that still doesn't explain where my memory went. As I stated, the avi files were deleted using mass media.

I can understand some processes being used on the 1gig harddrive however I find it really hard to believe that 600mbs are being used by these default applications/OS.

Did everyone else initially encounter only having 400mbs available for storage?

EightHammers,

The device has 128MB on board memory and a 1gb Media storage area (think of it as a permanent media card. If you goto Menu>options>memory you will see two listings.

Thanks Thatzmister2u -

I do see two listings -
Application Memory free space - 23mb ... that's fine I'm having no problems there.

The problem I'm having is with the 1gb media storage
Total Space: 859.2MB
Free Space: 367.7MB - I only have 40Mbs in MP3s currently on the device. Nothing else! That's 450Mbs unaccounted for from my total space and another 150 missing for my quoted "1GB" internal memory.

I am wondering if it has something to do with Idexes, etc. Have you tried Media>Music>Menu>Explore and then navigating to the device memory music folder and showing hidden files? What do you see?

EDIT - Also have you recorded any videos or Voice notes? All of these things will be stored in your 1gb Media Space.

Thatzmister2u - You are a genius!

Thank you for all your help, I'm very grateful.

I couldn't find any hidden files of consequence in the music or video folders, BUT opening the hidden files option lead me to the .trashes/501 folder where all the previous files were.

If there is a Blackberry support prize floating around, you definitely deserve it. Thanks!

I am glad you were able to solve the mystery...now the question is have you been able to reclaim the space?
