you may think i need to check into the state hospital but the old TMO commercial with the little cheerleader girl yapping away on the phone kills me. you know, the one where she has a real squeeky voice and is all "she was like whatever, and i said whatever". silly, i know but i have the perfect application for a ringtone of this if anyone can do it....my wife's incoming calls cause she just goes oooooooonnnnnn about nothing! anyone?

You might try to create your own using the AT&T Text to Speech engine. Download and use one of the Sound editors such as Audacity to modify the speed and frequency. Then upload it to your BB the normal way. There are some controls that can be used on the AT&T site that may enable you to do it there also. Check out the FAQ on that site.
Hope this helps.

Audacity, is a good free OSS editor that will allow you to change both pitch and tempo separatly. It can de downlloaded from Sourceforge.org. I did a quick check on what you want after posting and got some pretty good results with a 50% speed increase and a 10% pitch increase. YMMV so play around with both, and rember CTRL Z works.
Hope this helps.

What BB do you have?
I think the 8700 series will only do mp3's, and the 7100 series will only do ADPCM files

Could it be that the "Power pack Trial period has expired", and that there was some dated DRM included in the MP3 file that corrupted it?
Just a thought

sorry, no catch
that might have something to do with it had i been the one to create the file but that is not the case. furthermore, powerpack is a way to convert audio files (.wav, .mp3, .oog, .flac) from one format to another, not lift audio off of .mpgs. and fiiiinally, all the mp3s on my laptop get tagged by powerpack many of them i've edited to use as ringtones and they work fine.
bottom line is the file plays fine in more robust media players (winamp, real, quicktime, reallll) just not the blackberry player.
i think it must have something to do with the file being mpeg 2. all of my other audio files (ripped or file shared) are mpeg 1. this might have had something to do with the fact it was lifted (again, by someone else) from a vid file.
oh yeah, i have an 8700C.

probably so.. as mpeg 1, audio layer 3 is "mp3" therefore recognizable by the 8700 which is the device i assume you own

wrong again
at risk of getting off topic:
mp3 Audio is an audio compression technology that is part of the MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 specifications. "3" referrs to the layer or coding. Layer 3 uses perceptual audio coding and psychoacoustic compression to remove all superfluous information (more specifically, the redundant and irrelevant parts of a sound signal. The stuff the human ear doesn't hear anyway). It also adds a MDCT (Modified Discrete Cosine Transform) that implements a filter bank, increasing the frequency resolution 18 times higher than that of layer 2.
besides, the file in question is .mp3/mpeg 2 which should have eluded to that fact that .mp3 can have multipe specifications.
roll aggies roll.

Thanks for that educational experience, I bow to your superiority.
I just have to wonder, you seem to know so much about digital audio, and yet you can't get it to work on your BlackBerry?

did i hurt your feelings?
You are right. I know a little about digital audio and being that I am a new bb user I'm not all that familiar with everything it can or cannot do. Therefore, your weak attempt to take a stab was poorly aimed. Funny, much like your post.
If you don't have anything useful to say....why post?

Hurt my feelings? hardly.
I'm a retired Marine that's seen more shit than you could probably imagine. It's gonna take a lot more than some internet post on a BlackBerry forum to hurt my feelings/anger me.
I was simply asking why is it that someone who's talking about "perceptual audio coding and psychoacoustic compression to remove all superfluous information ", can't figure out how to encode said audio into a format that WILL be recognized by the BB?
simple question, hurt feelings had nothing to do with it

BlackberryLive, Have you tried to import it into any other sound editor and change the parameters and mp3 settings? Maybe something can be changed to get it to play. You might try Audacity, with the LAME dll. You can find both on SourceForge for free downloading. It's a fairly straight forward process to change the settings.
I could say something about your Avatar being the reason, but I won't.
Hope this Helps

once more for the cheap seats
Since you seem to have a hard time retaining information so I'll say it again.
I am new to blackberry and I therefore do not know what all it will or will not do. Let's see if I can put it in perspective...because I know what a semiconductor is should I be able then to know exactly its function in circuitry?
So you've seen a lot of poop? That's something to be proud of...I usualy don't make a habit of looking at it.
I'm done here, this isn't productive at all.
