I grabbed one in the store, but thinking about taking it back now for the 2GB card at CompUSA. For just $15 more, that's a great deal.

Sorry For The Ignorance, But
Would someone please advise what one can do with such a card on the new 8800 (besides download cd music)? How would it come in handy for the regular BB user?

Store photos, music, movies, and ringtones. Device memory is only 64MB, so adding a MicroSD of 2GB would really let you add a few extras to your BB.

2 GB MicroSD
I just bought one from this guy on eBay. Let's see how it goes. He's from Hong Kong. It should take a while to get here. If it is a scam, which I think it is not, 30 bucks is a small price to create awareness.

On ebay you have to watch out for fake ones. A lot of them from overseas are fake, not all, but a lot.

Which Brand?
I have a question for all you BB gurus. What is a good brand of microSD card to get? I know SanDisk is a good one, but what about Kingston or one of the other nock-offs? Is there really much of a difference? I'd like to get more info before I get one. Thanks in advance guys.
Comp-U-Plus has Sandisk 2 GB for sale for $44.00 if anyone is interested.

forget brands... they are all made in the same asian factories and then different brand stickers are attached.
Just get the cheapest you can get.

Just received my 1G card from Newegg.com. Great price, product arrived in 2 days and works perfectly without any re-formatting issues. Highly recommended!

Really? Care to name one of these mystery factories so we can research further? Thanks.

Will the MicroSD card be able to store regular data, like lots, and lots of email and Auto/Text info, GPS data, and third party applications such as Spellcheck, that are not media related? Will the storage occur automatically as you cram data into the Berry, or will you have to direct the data to the card? Does the extra storage space improve the speed of the Berry?

No, right now it will only store media files such as ringtones, pictures, music, and videos. However, you can use it as a mass storage device if you needed to add extra things not media related, but you won't be able to access it from the BB, only from the computer when hooked up.

You ever work in a chip foundry? I have, and I'll tell you there can be a wide variety in the quality of the chips, even on a single slice. I'd be willing to bet that those companies that care for their rep spend extra for the chips with the lower MTBF ratings.
